We have all seen and felt the changes as we continue to adapt to a post-pandemic (can we call it that?) world. From social distancing to work-from-home, each one of us has been impacted by the new norms, but for ecommerce brands, many had to make real-time decisions to keep up with customer demands and dramatic shifts in ecommerce growth.
One of the major shifts we saw was the push to implement BOPIS (buy online, pick up in-store) on Salesforce Commerce Cloud. According to Retail TouchPoints, 90% of retailers planned to implement BOPIS by the beginning of 2021. Armed with customized shopping journeys, ecommerce brands started meeting customers where they are – on websites, apps, and beyond – and offered them safe, socially distant options with curbside pick-up.
78% of retailers rate integrating ecommerce and in-store experiences as important/business critical.
As we reported at the beginning of 2021, ecommerce brands saw considerable increases in revenue with the introduction of BOPIS.
- Sites advertising buy online or curbside pickup options saw digital revenues grow by 127% year over year.
- Sites that operate physical stores but did not offer a pickup option only grew by 54%.
Are Brands Still Seeing the Benefits of BOPIS as Brick-and-Mortar Stores Begin to Reopen?
In a new report, Raydiant surveyed over 1,000 American consumers to take a deeper look into how shoppers feel about BOPIS as more and more physical stores reopen. Here are some key findings:
- 8.2% of consumers have used BOPIS 20 times or more in the past year, suggesting that it may have become their primary mode of shopping.
- 32.9% of consumers expect no change in their BOPIS usage.
- 35.4% of respondents cited COVID-19 as the leading reason why they use BOPIS offerings.
The report shows that consumers are still utilizing BOPIS with no plans to decrease their ecommerce usage. In fact, 24.5% of consumers would be more likely to use BOPIS if local product offerings were more competitive with online retailers, like Amazon.
What Does this Mean for Your Ecommerce Website on Salesforce?
If your brand hasn’t implemented BOPIS, now is the time to put it on your roadmap. As many shoppers continue to worry about their health and safety, it’s crucial for ecommerce brands to have options for consumers. BOPIS allows customers the ability to shop when and where they want, with easy and convenient pick-up options.
